I don't even use this program so I think it should either be upgraded or dropped personally.

Please don't drop it. It is an unknown but useful counterpart to WinSCP on Windows.
I added the following terminal settings to the file /usr/local/ lib/secpanel/ termdefs (in 0.5.4, not available in 0.4.2) for the XFCE desktop:
