Bug Description

Binary package hint: sdlmame

As suggested in [1] I'd like to ask for a FF for new SDLMAME, because:

* it fixes a LP bug [2]

* it also fixes the annoying mailing complaining it doesn't build on exotic platforms

* it's really outdated: 5 (five!) major releases have occured since version 0.123, currently in multiverse

* I've been bombed by user requests for it ;-)

* "it builds!"(tm) [3]

* it can't do any harm since it has no dependencies which can be broken

* I have tested it with the games which are freely available

Please have a look at the attached files and, please, *do* upload it, thanks! :-)

Lots of changes (five releases justify them). Could you please highlight the most important ones?

- Each new release usually adds previously unsupported games or improves support for the already emulated ones.

- Mame(TM) has its own bug reporting site (MAMETesters), and each release fixes a number of them (listed in whastnew.txt)

- At some point since 0.123 a new utility for laserdisc games has been released (it's in the sdlmame-tools binary) and a deprecated one has been removed

- Internally, each new release also cleans and improves the code, and this obviously makes SDLMAME more stable and fast

- Ubuntu-wise, I fixed a couple of packaging bugs

Personally, I'd upload sdlmame early during Jaunty cycle and go for a backport for Intrepid.

I've never done a backport before.

Is this the right place to start from?

Please also close this bug as a FF is no longer needed.

Thanks,
