hardy heron upgrade errors related to dependencies

Binary package hint: update-manager

during upgrade from 7.10 to hardy heron the install hung at 100% cpu while configuring png something or other. It sat there for a few minutes so i ctrl C and clicked ok through the rest of the install errors. at the end I got an error saying the upgrade failed and the following packages hate me:
