Same here. Did a fresh install of Gutsy yesterday, first dist-upgrade gave a lot of error messages like:
"/var/lib/scrollkeeper/fr/scrollkeeper_extended_cl.xml:4568: parser error : Extra content at the end of the document <sect ...>"
I then did a "sudo scrollkeeper-rebuilddb" (found that solution here: http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/127756/?p=1075179#1075179) which seems to have resolved the problem.

I had a similar experience using Synaptic Package Manager to add the two packages openoffice.org-dev and openoffice.org-dev-doc to a relatively new Ubuntu 7.10. First time, the /var/log/apt/term.log showed 1434 "parser error"s. After sudo scrollkeeper-rebuilddb, no errors.

Happens with hardy beta, too. Appears to be a problem with install-doc in the postinst files of certain packages. See also: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204309

This happened to me today. I installed Hardy from a relatively old cd I had around. the initial update failed as described by others.

worse, it left a scrollkeeper-update process spinning sucking up CPU, which I had to kill by hand.

The workaround seemed to work, at least.

scrollkeeper has been removed from the development release of Ubuntu and is not being maintained. Further bug fixing is extremely unlikely.
