Scribus crashes immediately on start up. Error box/message pops up saying it is due to a signal 6. No further details.

I am also having this problem. ScribusNG won't start because it crashes at startup. See screenshot.

Same here, can't open Scribus (stable "Scribus Version 1.4.0.rc3
27 March 2011 Build ID: C-C-T-F-C1.10.2 Using Ghostscript version 9.04" on Ubuntu 11.10) as normal user, get error message "Scribus crashes due to signal #6" (exactly like the screenshot in John Janney's post above), and Scribus then closes if I click OK on the error message. But I'm able to open and use Scribus if I run "gksudo scribus" from the terminal.

I'm getting same error with Ubuntu 12.04 .

Versions of Scribus:
scribus 1.4.0.dfsg+r17300-1ubuntu1 Open Source Desktop Page Layout - stable branch

Happens EVERY time. I start Scribus. I go to open a file(either through the open dialog on startup, or through "Open File" under file). It gives me a file manager window. Whatever I click on, gives me the crash.

When I try to start from command line, same crash, but I get this:
$ scribus
Got bus address: "unix:abstract=/tmp/dbus-bodn16DEby,guid=1c245be05f63b9d438d2c19400000032"

Scribus Crash
-------------
Scribus crashes due to Signal #6
Calling Emergency Save
$

Using a hint from s-krasin, and running:
$ sudo scribus

Everything runs fine. Instead of the gnome file mamanger, it opens up the kde file manager.

Running this as a super user is NOT a valid workaround. Please fix.

A workaround that worked for me:

$ QT_ACCESSIBILITY=0 scribus
(from http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11521156&postcount=4)

This bug is probably related to bug #877358.

Same problem here. Once I select a folder in the 'open file' dialog, i get 'Scribus crashes due to Signal #6'.

As suggested,

QT_ACCESSIBILITY=0 scribus

...works. Scribus then crashes SIGV11 later while loading the PDF file I am trying to edit, but that is another bug.

QT_ACCESSIBILITY=0 scribus

works also for me.

Ubuntu 12.04 up-to-date (32 & 64 bit)

It seems to be related with a QT_ACCESSIBiLITY bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/at-spi2-core/+bug/877358

I could reproduce the problem in lxde, unity 2d and unity 3d (12.04 up-to-date 32 & 64 bit)

QT_ACCESSIBILITY=0 scribus

allways solves the problem.
