Bug Description

The GNU Screen package cannot be installed using the Gnome Software application because it's missing the needed metadata.

What kind of meta data do you mean? I thought GNOME's "Software" uses packagekit as backend which again uses apt as backend and hence should be able to see _all_ packages.

It doesn't show up in Gnome Software until the AppStream metadata (see https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-desktop/2016-February/004785.html) are added.

Thanks for the link. According to https://wiki.debian.org/AppStream/Guidelines this seems only for GUI applications.

I see. Sorry, didn't know that. There are some console/tui apps (for example htop) available from the Gnome Software though.

I'm not 100% sure though if it's only intended for GUI applications.

The reason why are some TUI applications showing in the Gnome Software is because they have a XDG desktop/icon files.
