Update Manager continually tries to install an important security update
to winbind and always fails with the following error:-

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/winbind_2%3a3.4.0-3ubuntu5.4_i386.deb:
subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 2

I cannot upgrade Open Office to 3.2, it returns an error.

Previous reported errors seem to be related .

How can I resolve this?

How can I resolve this?

I cannot install latest OpenOffice, suspect because of the same cause.

This seems to be the same error as 505518, how do I overcome this?

Regards.

/etc/init.d/winbind was apparently modified by hand (the one we ship has LSB info and does not fail on line 1).
Please purge winbind (sudo apt-get purge winbind) and reinstall it, reopen this bug if you can still reproduce.
