Bug Description

Binary package hint: samba

Tried to restart but eventually did a recovery reboot. This went to command line, asked to restart. I'm ashamed to say that I cannot remember the root password, so forced computer shutdown on power button. Restarted, the system did fsck, then on logging on there was a message briefly to the effect that an upgrade had failed, this led me down the path to Launchpad. Hopefully the data collected tells you which package failed.

Looking at the reported detail above reminds me that on recovery the error to winbind occurred, & is probably not the cause of the original problem.

More information:- This all started last night when I saw a warning triangle in the top panel. I clicked on it, this caused update manager to run - this was not an "automatic" update notification as I originally described. I think the update manager then gave a long list of (greyed out) applications - I really don't remember whether the list came up first or after I asked it to check. I then requested install and then I left the system for a while.

I have now rediscovered sudo su.
