FYI: rsyslog v6.3+ will have "proper" priv drop code. That means the somewhat dirty "Ubuntu file permissions fix" will no longer work for the reasons stated in this tracker. Note that this fix actually worked because it escaped privilege drop, something definitely not desirable.
