The problem is not exclusive to Rhythmbox, it happens also with Sound Juicer. Maybe gvfs related?
With a mounted Audio CD, when I open I can see the CD device for a moment on the left panel. Then the device disappear and naturally Rhythmbox can play it. Happens with the current version ( 2.96) and 2,97.
Banshee can't get track info but play the CD.
Updated Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits with ia32-libs on a Samsung R540.
