Hi Yasmine. It seems like your issue is not directly related to Redmine.

If you are still running Lucid, you might want to try that command:

 sudo apt-get install git-core

In Lucid, the git command is provided by the "git-core" package while in more recent Ubuntu it is provided by the "git" package.
