I have this issue in ubuntu 9.014, 64 bits.

Linux xxxx 2.6.31-16-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP Tue Dec 8 04:02:15 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I use a pptp vpn through wifi.

Ping & HTTP access via the vpn works fine.
As soon as rdesktop starts, the system freeze
Killing the rdesktop process via a terminal console brings it back to life.
