2012-09-16 10:15:21 joehill bug added bug
2012-09-16 10:17:42 joehill description I've had a number of problems lately with quodlibet and have traced them to the fact that quodlibet periodically writes garbage to the ~/.quodlibet/config file and to other files it uses, for example, the files in the ~/.quodlibet/playlists/ folder. When I've had problems with these files, I've looked at them and found that they had been changed from plain text to binary garbage. When I removed these files, quodlibet would start normally but later the files would again be corrupted. This may have something to do with the fact that X is crashing a lot on me lately. I think, but am not certain, that these files disappear or are changed to garbage when quodlibet is not cleanly shut down. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: quodlibet 2.3.2-1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-30.48-generic-pae 3.2.27 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-30-generic-pae i686 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu13 Architecture: i386 Date: Sun Sep 16 12:08:04 2012 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Beta i386 (20120328) PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_US:en TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: quodlibet UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) I've had a number of problems lately with quodlibet and have traced them to the fact that quodlibet periodically writes garbage to the ~/.quodlibet/config file and to other files it uses, for example, the files in the ~/.quodlibet/playlists/ folder. When the config file is corrupted, quodlibet fails to start at all and I get a message in the console saying there's a problem with the console file. My playlists occasionally disappear, in which case I find the same garbage in place of a plain-text file. When I removed these files or replaced them with backups, quodlibet would start normally but later the files would again be corrupted and I would have the same problems and have to remove the config file and copy the backups of my playlists back into the playlists folder. This may have something to do with the fact that X is often crashing lately. I think, but am not certain, that these files disappear or are changed to garbage when quodlibet is not cleanly shut down.
