Thanks. I did that. I also deleted printers I'm not using and set a non CUPS_PDF printer as default. I think the papersize is now right. I now only see this option in the "properties" dialog and not the "options" dialog. But it still, naturally, ignores duplex/greyscale etc.

Somebody else using KDE on Arch claims that his settings (as made via KDE's printer kcm setup) do persist and do determine default printing in Okular etc. However, I checked the build file for QT on Arch and it definitely doesn't use the patch, so I'm not sure how this is even possible.

Personally, I think KDE should move to the openprinting dialog. Even patched, the QT dialog is going to be unsatisfactory because it is insensitive to the actual capabilities of the printers installed and divorces printing from KDE apps from the KDE CUPS interface (which is billed as a way to configure printing and not merely as a way to configure CUPS). I don't really understand why the QT print dialog isn't regarded as *obviously* unsatisfactory and, for a sophisticated DE like KDE, *embarrassingly* stone-age.
