Maybe those of you using distros without the patch should consider bugging your distributors to include it. Point them to OpenSUSE and that they _have_ the patch.
Chances are that at some point the insight will percolate that it would be much more efficient to include the patch upstream instead of having a copy of it in every distribution. AFAICT rants in this bug report have gotten us nowhere and are not very likely to get us anywhere in the future.
Just want to point out that OpenSUSE has fixed the issue in their distro already more than a year ago (see also comment #16).
