Debian hasn't switched their default Python to 3.12 yet, but it looks like that's in work, and so this issue will appear there.
I'll email the Debian bug, letting them know about the issue here.
Jonas, you're right that moving to a newer usptream is probably the best. Unfortunately I don't know the policies here: Maybe the MOTU folks will want Debian to move first?
