I only bump the version of the auto module if I actually change something in it. The package version 2.16 just changed python-mkdebian, which didn't change the DistUtilsExtra module API (including .auto) at all. Since this is mostly done for testing in setup.py files for feature compatibility, it doesn't need to be bumped every time.
