Hi Dave. While you were sleeping ( N.Y. Is 12 hours behind Philippines) I tried something. I removed pulseaudio through Gnome package installer. It also removed a large number of dependancies. I found them and reinstalled all Took a long time because our internet is the second slowest in the world. Only Thailand is slower. Result... It did not help. After a cold restart still no sound. Think about this and contact your buddies. There must be a work around. I see many posts with the same HP and no sound. HP does not like LINUX I think. I will wait till I see your post come thru my email address in Hotmail. Thanks for alll your help.
