Bug Description

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

pulseaudio is installed, and configured for per-user sessions

$ sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio start
 * PulseAudio configured for per-user sessions

However, I see no volume control, and the sound preferences stalls "Waiting for sound system to respond".

I do have sound as I'm able to skype and play music, but I can't control the volume.

When I ran the command:
  LANG=C pulseaudio -vvvv > ~/pulseverbose.log 2>&1

The sound preferences dialog showed, but there was still no volume control in the task bar.
