This bug is still active. The lirc-module does not launch a notification when the volume level is changed.

Workaround: Configure irxevent to launch the volume keys instead of changing volume directly like discribed here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1086023&p=10830343#post10830343
