Experiencing this issue just as of today. Not detecting the onboard nor the pci sound devices. Alsa detects them just fine:
 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xea300000 irq 22
 1 [U0x46d0x991 ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x991
USB Device 0x46d:0x991 at usb-0000:00:1a.7-2.1, high speed
 2 [Audigy2 ]: Audigy2 - SB Audigy 2 Platinum [SB0240P]
                      SB Audigy 2 Platinum [SB0240P] (rev.4, serial:0x10021102) at 0xd000, irq 20

However pulseaudio only gives me a "Dummy Output". My pulseaudio version is 0.9.17-0ubuntu1 from karmic/main.
