Also running virtual box and seeing the same issue ... In my case it amounts to a DOS on my machine. The hard disk is trashing, which may be an indication that my ram is full and it's moving to swap. The system is unresponsive however so I can't look at what is consuming the resources. Sometimes it seems to recover, however often I'm forced to hard restart.
I did recently enable Audio in a virtual box machine that's just about always running, which corresponds to starting to see these issues. I've disabled that audio and i'll see if the problem recurs.
