Hi! I've changed the package hint of this bug, because it's the most probable package being affected. I followed the methods you suggested, but the "gnome sound preferences" doesn't have a help menu, so it doesn't have a "report a problem" option, nor is it a package on its own. I hope this helps a bit more.
