I'm not entirely sure, but I believe this has actually fixed the CPU usage issues on pause. CPU usage of PulseAudio now drops to zero on pause, instead of rising to 100%. It might be useful to do a diff of the channel-remixing code of the newer PulseAudio, and evaluate whether it can be backported in case PulseAudio 0.9.12 can't itself be.
The only tradeoff is that now PulseAudio takes 4 or 5 times of removing and reinserting the Audigy2 card before it'll use the surround capabilities on the device.
