I can confirm this bug. I have changed the value in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf to:
default-sample-channels = 6
I am playing stereo flac files with xmms2. When I pause the playback, pulseaudio crashes after a few seconds. This behavior is reproducible.
$ pulseaudio
