Totem/gstreamer does not play video when no soundcard

Bug Description
I noted (when I had no sound in 2.6.24-12.19) that when there is no sound card, totem does not want to play videos.
When I try to play a video it echoes the following message and stops:
** Message: Error: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument
pulsesink.
where I expect to get a message there is no audio but be able to play the video. The audio output in gstreamer-
