pitti, the fix in CUPS is a workaround. It simply makes the pdftops filter of Intrepid (Poppler-based) never generating PostScript level 3 (pdftops of Jaunty is Ghostscript-based).
The HPLIP task is for HP to fix the PPDs of all HP PostScript printers which are faulty in PostScript Level 3.
The Poppler task is there as it is not excluded that the PostScript Level 3 generated by Poppler is broken.
foomatic-db also ships the PPDs from HP, so if HP fixes them, also foomatic-db needs to be updated.
