Bug Description

Binary package hint: poppler-data

This package is essential when displaying CJK (Chinese, Japanese or Korean) PDF files with evince. Without this package installed, CJK characters can't be displayed and will only show as ASCII garbage.

This package installs the Adobe CMap files into /usr/share/poppler/cMap/ and does nothing else. There are no executables or libraries in this package.

In fact, we want to have this package to be seeded into the Live CD.

I have carefully checked that the package complies to the MIR requirements.

CD inclusion might get a little tight (the package is quite huge, and we currently removed almost all langpacks to get CDs back into size limit at all), but having it in main would be good either way, for language-support-* inclusion.

This bug has been mentioned as necessary to fix bug 200446.

I see that the fix was committed several months ago, but if I understand it correctly poppler-data is not yet in main.

Martin, is anything blocking the MIR?

The MIR is fine, but something actually needs to pull it into main. I seeded it now, and promoted.

I filed bug 623825 for having poppler-data be installed automatically from language-selector.

Martin said he'd promoted this, but it still seemed to be in universe. Re-promoted.

Evince of 10.04 doesn't work correctly in japanese without poppler-data.
I had to add with Synaptic too.
The pdf was ok after that.

Even Installation of 10.04 in November, no update integrated it in my OS.
I think it should be installed automatically as well as Evince.
