Comment 85 for bug 540801

Upgraded to Lucid a few days ago, and I got this problem too. I have an Acer Aspire 5620, ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 graphic card with opensource drivers. Just after grub i get a black screen with a blinking cursor on the top left corner, and just before getting to the desktop (I have auto login) i see a glimpse of splash screen and then white pixel stripes for another brief instant, and then i get to the desktop.
I didn't try the fix in comment #2, probably it would fix the issue, however I prefer to wait for an actual solution 'cause I agree with comment #67: since a lot of Lucid users will be affected from this bug, and a nice boot experience is the first impact with the newly installed OS, surely saving a few seconds of boot time isn't worth that level of adverse user impact. I like a faster boot, but I also agree that in this case priorities should be reevaluated. Waiting for news, thank you all for the cooperation towards an always better system.
