Today I installed a few updates on my 10.04 which has been running absolutely fine for over a month at this stage. Before installing the updates I got a warning saying that some of the update packages could not be authenticated. I decided not to install those updates, but, after every reboot when I ran update manager, the same few updates were listed, so I decided to install the unauthenticated updates, after which the computer rebooted and then I started getting the error message as follows:

(process :362) : GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)

I have tried reinstalling from a live cd, but no joy. I too would like to see this issue resolved.
I must admit that on my second laptop, 10.04 is running quite alright for just as long and no update issues either.

Now I'm just a beginner still and can't say whether the software packages installed on the two systems were identical or not, so I can't say I know the source of the issue.

Help please.
