The kernel patch is still in progress but I also wonder if plymouthd starts early enough to do all the console blocking? If so then it could FBIOPUT_CON2FBMAP like con2fbmap does, to umap the console from the framebuffer. But that's still racing with other kernel things which might have already dumped text onto the console. So a kernel patch is probably still the only fully reliable solution.
