Bug Description

After updating the kernel from 3.19.0.28 to 3.19.0.31 the full disk encryption password entry was unusable on restart.

In 3.19.0.28 password entry works
in 3.19.0.31 password entry is displayed in the top left of the screen as if it was entered into the non-graphical boot logs

Current work around: revert to 3.19.0.28

For testing and debugging I have added a new key "abc123" and added "plymouth:debug" to grub. I will try and get a debug log.

Attached is a plymouth-debug.log with quiet and splash disabled and plymouth:debug enabled. Unfortuanly I can not gatter a plymouth-debug.log for the failing case as there is no unecrypted disk for the lg to be written to.

Current state:
* Using kernel 3.19.0.28 works with graphical plymouth
* Using kernel 3.19.0.31 does not work with graphical plymouth
* Using kernel 3.19.0.31 does work without graphical plymouth

Current suggestion is that it is a kernel+plymouth related issue.

This is a recent problem for me. I upgraded to 15.04 some time ago, but the problem only really appeared within the last week, possibly due to a dist-upgrade to linux-image-3.19.0-28 or linux-image-3.19.0-30. Unfortunately I'm not sure which upgrade I did when, and what else came in at the same time (I let my laptop sit a little too long without rebooting).

Using http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.19.8-ckt7-vivid/linux-image-3.19.8-031908ckt7-generic_3.19.8-031908ckt7.201509251130_amd64.deb also solves the issue.

uname -a
Linux OtherLaptop 3.19.8-031908ckt7-generic #201509251130 SMP Fri Sep 25 15:32:30 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

This suggests it might be a Ubuntu patch that is causing the issue or it has already been fixed upstream.

An operating system isn't very clever when I can't even boot it. Please, there are like 10 bugs for this now, please take this seriously.
