I did an installation from scratch, same issue, however, I don't see any echoed text on the side...
Some other differences which probably are not related to the issue, I use AMD graphic card with fglrx-updates.
My workaround is to CTRL-ALT-DEL, wait the system to boot again, press enter to proceed at grub window, and then, blindly enter the password (just a purple screen, no prompt or text anywhere)...
