I have recently upgraded from 14.04.1 to 14.10 on my Samsung R560 laptop. Everything works fine except the password splash screen during boot. I'm unable to enter my crypt password into the password box - kayboard works, but the typed text is echoed in plaintext on the side of the boot screen. Please see the image for clarification: http://i.imgur.com/x3cPMbk.jpg. In order to boot the system, I have to boot through recovery mode. I'm using nVidia binary drivers and I have modified my /etc/default/grub with GRUB_GFXMODE=1280x800 and GURB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep. I've had no problems with that configuration on Trusty.
