I also experienced the same problem, after installing the proprietary Nvidia drivers and following the instructions at http://www.webupd8.org/2010/03/how-to-get-plymouth-working-with-nvidia.html to re-enable plymouth on my proprietary Nvidia driver.
Right now, I'm undoing the graphical plymouth fix so I can boot by entering my encrypted password, but all I get is a text-mode plymouth.
