I'm currently having the same issue with my system :/ I went through all the mentioned workarounds in this thread but unfortunately none of them have worked. I used the configs listed below via "sudo vim /etc/default/grub". Used "sudo update-grub" once the grub configuration was saved and restarted the machine. Ubuntu would always boot into a blank/black screen at which point I have to insert my password blindly.

Does anyone have any other suggestions or workarounds that I can try?

Configs used:

* GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1920x1080
* GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=wxh

* GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480
* GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash"
* GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""
* GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet"
