Bug Description

After upgrading to 11.10, Pidgin doesn't connect to any of my accounts because it doesn't seem to be using system proxy settings, and going into the Proxy section of Pidgin preferences gets the message "Proxy configuration program was not found". Empathy also doesn't connect to any accounts. I've checked the proxy settings in System Settings -> Network -> Network proxy and also in dconf -> system -> proxy, and also in gconf-editor -> system -> proxy, and the settings seem correct and they work with other software like Chromium.

This seems to be a known issue in pidgin (see http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/13867) with the new proxy mechanism in Gnome 3.

By the way, a workaround is to manually set the proxy info for each IM account in pidgin. This is a pain, but a workaround nonetheless.
