Binary package hint: pidgin
pidgin 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1 from Ubuntu 8.10 uses the wrong proxy entry from the GNOME Proxy Settings:
It tries to use the "HTTP-Proxy" entry instead of the "Secure HTTP-Proxy" entry (empty for me, so don't use a proxy for SSL connections).
The usual HTTP-Proxy doesn't support the "CONNECT" protocol, so if I try to connect via pidgin all I get is HTTP-Proxy-
