It was actually the first time that I was sending such a big file over pidgin. I have absolutely no idea if its a new or old problem. All that I know is that I'm running the latest package.
Maybe I didn't understand what you meant but I don't see the point of trying another receiver since that's the receiver end of pidgin that is broken.

The good news is that this bug does not impact the actual transfer of the file since the file actually get fully received by the receiver. It's only a minor display issue. Md5sum of the original file and receiver file are a match.
