this is unrelated to the adding of an account, so it seems. when restarting pidgin, the account I added is still there. the problem occurs when I log in though.

see the attached log, now with pidgin-dbg installed.

I get the same problem on my machine. I have an Intel T2060 1.6GHz Dual Core. My pidgin won't boot at all. I have a MSN account, a GTalk account and an AIM account. If I wipe my profile it comes up. I can add my Google Talk and AIM accounts back in and it still works fine. But when I add my MSN account it crashes.

Is this for the official ubuntu pidgin binary? is G_DEBUG set somehow?

Joachim Beckers (jbeckers) wrote :

yes it is.

workaround from bug 187755 (now a dupe):

in a terminal, run:
$ unset G_DEBUG
$ pidgin
