Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

I know the hiding of the buddy window at startup is in a plugin (extended preferences).
First:
I think it's VERY basic functionality that should be in the main preferences.
Second:
On latest ubuntu gutsy (2007-08-02), the setting in the plugin doesn't work. The buddy list always shows.

I'm getting the same problem on Gutsy (pidgin 1:2.1.0-1ubuntu2, pidgin-extprefs 0.7-2). Even if I hand-edit ~/.purple/prefs.xml to set list_visible to 1, it has no effect, and is reset to 0 on exit. The other related settings, e.g. list_maximized, x and y, all work as expected.

FWIW, I can confirm this behaviour - I can't get the buddy list to hide, even though the plugin sets it to be hidden.

Yes, this bug troubles me as well in Ubuntu 12.04. I've seen this occur in previous versions too. Buddy window simply doesn't show up at startup and we manually require to quit pidgin and start it again to see its buddy window.
