Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

Pidgin needs the option to start minimized. This would allow me and other instant messenger users to add pidgin to the sessions menu and have it start on boot up. Other instant messengers have this feature.

While waiting for fix, you can use alltray:
sudo apt-get install alltray

Then in System/Settings/Sessions add pidgin to autostart with command "alltray pidgin"

Pidgin should remember whether it quits minimized or maximized. In the pidgin-forum it is assumed that it is because shutting down causes Pidgin to maximize the buddy-window before shutdown. But that's not the issue I think, because when quitting the app via rightclick on systrayicon Pidgin maximizes the buddywindow as well but remembers minimized status at application-restart.

I have Pidgin running as part of the KDE-Session

I have the same problem. I think that when you close Pidgin with right click it save the position, than maximize and than close. If it is closed by event it only maximize and than close.
According me must to be managed the closing routine.

The problem I have in Fedora 9 - Gnome 2.22.1 - started by gnome-session.

This is one of my must-have gnome features, I use this with Ekiga (which already has this option).

Or perhaps an option, in the preferences, to run pidgin on computer start (minimized of course) ?

You can install the pidgin-extprefs package which enables this option. BUT! It does not work...
