I'm also facing this error. I'm also getting the message like the other people:
error: RPC failed; HTTP 503 curl 22 The requested URL returned error: 503 Service Unavailable
fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly

I was also following the steps in the porting guide and also wanted to create a local backup of the sources.
The problem persists on all my devices.
