Bug Description

Binary package hint: perl

The new version of Perl is missing the perl header files in /usr/lib/perl/5.10.1/asm (5.10.1-17ubuntu4.1 vs 5.10.1-17ubuntu4).

These header files are referenced in some of the other header files, e.g. sys/syscall.ph references asm/unistd.ph

The headers files in asm-generic and linux are also missing.

I build the package (apt-get source -b perl) which does have the asm files in there. I'm not really sure what happened during the official build, but my best guess is there were no installed linux headers and thus the asm files couldn't be generated...

mycroes: If you're right, then I guess in case of missing asm files, the build should fail.

Piotr: I'd assume the same thing, but apparently it works if I build the package myself on a desktop install, but the official package is missing the files (you can have a look with tar).

This bug breaks apt-cacher in natty - apt is unable to update:

sudo apt-get update
Ign http://localhost natty InRelease
Ign http://localhost natty-updates InRelease
Ign http://localhost natty-security InRelease
Err http://localhost natty Release.gpg
  Connection failed
Err http://localhost natty-updates Release.gpg
  Connection failed
Err http://localhost natty-security Release.gpg
  Connection failed
^C

/var/cache/apt-cacher/error.log shows:

Wed Sep 7 18:28:36 2011|info [1272]: return_file /var/cache/apt-cacher/packages/ca.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_Release.gpg aborted by timeout at 0 of bytes

Installing the missing asm directory fixes the problem.
