I'm having the same (or worse) problem.
I was running dapper on my G4 Quicksilver with no problems. I try to dist-upgrade to Edgy and after rebooting, I end up with a blank screen. I switch over to a terminal and it won't let me log in.
So, I download the edgy ppc live CD. The computer starts up very slowly, but eventually I get to the desktop. I try to install, but when I get to filling in fields, my keyboard doesn't work at all. I try typing in open office and I have the same problem. I pull up a terminal window, and I still have problems (which would probably explain why I couldn't log in).
My mouse, which is plugged into the keyboard, works fine. At times, the keyboard starts spitting out random digits (usually the same one over and over), but most of the time I get nothing.
