Bug Description

i installed windows 2000 on an 8gb virtualbox disc and tried an auto-resize install with edubuntu desktop. first it warned me that the change was irreversible and then failed to start the resize. -- turns out this was due to a corrupted ntfs partition. The information about that should be brought to the user.

The Windows system boots fine after this, so no damage done. You are also taken directly to the manual partitioning page after the auto-resize gives up, so it recovers fairly gracefully.

Checking and defragging the ntfs drive from Windows helped. It now resizes and installs fine. I'll change the status and severity of the bug to one suggesting ubiquity should provide better error messages in such cases. Half-broken Windows installs are a common reason to install Ubuntu :)

Note also bug 14100. I'm keeping this bug separate as it concerns primarily the auto-resize feature, which might require a slightly different UI.

summary: - ntfs resize failures sho informative
+ ntfs resize failures should be more informative (auto-resize)
