Bug Description

The installer pops up a window and asks me to click continue to partition disk, but clicking continue launches the same window in a loop. If I click back it takes me to the partition manager but, it does not allow me to keep the windows partitions. I am attaching a screen shot of the problem.

I am using Jaunty daily build (March-26-09) on compaq presario CO50 laptop.

I can get to manual partition by clicking "go back" then "forward" but if I click "back" on the manual partition then it pops up the same window about /dev/sdb again... I have to click on "go back" on that window to go back to the previous screen. Attached is a screen shot.

But hitting "back" on manual partition screen pops up the window in a loop, I have to hit "Quit" and quit the install process or it will loop endlessly.

I noticed the above in the syslog... May be the installer should report this to the user and ask the user to do the above steps. I am going to try running chkdsk /f on windows and retry this jaunty install..

Windows Vista will not allow me to run this command "chkdsk /f" because I need admin privileges, I am running "defragment" and "free disk space" from computer maintenance on vista, hopefully that will do the same?

I had to boot into windows to "Shrink" the partition, and then do install Linux on the "available free space". But the installer still says that I have /dev/sdb (USB key with Jaunty on it), loops if I clicked "continue". But I was able to "go back" and then "forward" and continue with the install.

Thanks for your report.

The "go back" problem is bug 346589, and will be fixed after beta. Looking at your logs, the fact that you weren't informed about NTFS resizing not being possible is essentially bug 105814. It's a toss-up which to use as the duplicate target, but I'll go for bug 105814.
