With the recent release of OwnCloud Server 8.1, ownCloud-client needs to be at least version 1.7 to continue working. Older client version simply return "invalid user" or "forbidden" so the error is not obvious.
Please note this is official by upstream: https://owncloud.org/blog/upgrading-to-owncloud-server-8-1/
Currently only wily has a recent enough owncloud-client version. I request back porting the version from wily to older releases via a SRU to restore this functionality.

Please backport owncloud-client 1.8.1+dfsg-1(universe) from wily to trusty, utopic and vivid.
Reason for the backport:
========================
OwnCloud 8.1 was released on July 7th 2015. This version prevents owncloud-client from syncing files if the version of the client is below 1.7. This restriction can be manually disabled, but that might not be feasible for every OwnCloud installation.
Without this backport the essential functionality of owncloud-client is lost for all Ubuntu release before wily when the server has been upgraded to the most recent stable release. |
