Binary package hint: openoffice.org
Text with "shrink to fit" set is completely invisible when rotated 90 degrees unless Vertical Alignment is set to 'Bottom'. It is not possible to vertically align rotated text to Top or Center (any longer).
Please see attached demo spreadsheet.
This is a regression. The problem appeared some time in September or October 2010, or when chaning from Ubuntu Lucid to Maverick (not sure exactly when). My existing spreadsheets started having invisible values!

and the cells with "shrink to fit", rotated 90 degrees, are visible as they are in Microsoft Office Excel Viewer.
4) What happened instead is the cells show no content unless Vertical Alignment is set to 'Bottom".
WORKAROUND: Use Gnumeric, use Lucid OOo.
