In Ubuntu 10.10 opened file via libreoffice-impress using the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/457141/+attachment/864966/+files/test.odp && soffice -impress test.odp

Dragged and dropped the embedded file from one side of the template to the other instantly.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade && sudo apt-get -y install libreoffice-calc
